Class of 2009,
The CoSMO Clinic will be accepting applications for a paid
Intern/Coordinator position for the summer of 2006. This position is a
great way to get more involved with CoSMO and learn about the logistics
and management of a free clinic.
CoSMO Summer Intern/Coordinator position:
To all interested applicants: The CoSMO clinic, Columbia's free
student-run primary care clinic for uninsured patients, is now
receiving applications for the "Summer Intern/Coordinator" position.
As CoSMO enters its third year, there are still many opportunities for
the Summer Coordinator to help improve and expand the clinic and truly
have an impact on the community. The job description is as follows:
Dates: 10 weeks (flexible)
The applicant should be a student in good-standing at any health
science school of Columbia University, and able to dedicate at least 40
hours per week to the following duties:
General objective: to maintain the operation of the clinic and serve as
the clinic's main student contact during the summer transition between
academic years.
Specific duties:
- Scheduling students and attending physicians for clinic
participation, and ensuring their attendance
- Contacting clinic patients for pre-visit reminders
- Following-up on clinic no-shows
- Tracking patients drug prescriptions and applications to
"PharmAssist" (a program providing free prescription medications to
uninsured patients)
- Attending all General Council meetings, and acting as secretary of
the governing council
- Developing the training program for Fall 2005 (including logistics)
- Assisting committee leaders with a variety of summer projects.

Stipend: No less than last year's stipend of $2500.

Tim served as the summer intern in 2004 and started the summer intern
position with very little CoSMO experience, but acquired a wealth of
knowledge over the summer. He is now indispensable to CoSMO and remains
very involved in running the clinic. The deadline for applications is
